During this crazy lockdown period I thought I’d put my time to use and eventually do something productive (for the first time in almost 3 weeks) and finally write a wee review of my Iolla experience in their Edinburgh Stockbridge store. For anyone that doesn’t know, Iolla are a Scottish startup eyewear company with 3 stores located in Edinburgh and Glasgow. All single vision frames are priced at £65 which is a total bargain considering I usually spend around £200 on new frames! Iolla’s pricing includes frames, prescription lenses, coatings and lens thinning (which I was super excited about as I’m blind as a bat and normally have to pay around £65 to have my high-prescription lenses thinned!). I came across Iolla originally when I was interning at Those Were The Days Vintage as their showroom was just around the corner. The showroom was ultra-sleek with a simplistic layout of frames; making my shopping experience a lot less stressful than my normal glasses shopping trip.
The girls were great in the Stockbridge showroom and were helpful without being too pushy (which I can’t stand!) and gave honest opinions about which frames suited my face shape as it’s a constant struggle not to resemble the moon emoji with a super round baby-face! I’m restricted frame-wise due to my high prescription so sadly on-trend barely-there wire frames are off limits for me! Initially I fell in love with the Swinton frames in pale pink, but the assistant advised that these might not be the best option as even with thinning, my lenses may be visible in the corners of them. So I opted for the Muir frame in Purple Fade which I feel suited my face shape and the colour was a little different from the usual black of tortoiseshell frames I’m used to. They definitely are giving me my fix of vintage vibes too which is my usual go-to, cat-eyes round faces’ best pal!
The process was really simple, after taking my measurements in-store and my optical prescription (Iolla do not eye-test so you must have this already) I paid for my glasses and they were posted out to me and arrived within a week. The packaging and case were simplistic but had a personal feel and included a really handy case which folds down completely flat and a kitschy cartoon print cleaning cloth. Iolla also have a virtual try-on feature which means you can try at home and you can even order multiple pairs and return these via post. Iolla also provide guidance on measuring your glasses and the best frames for you online to make the process even easier.
Will definitely be using Iolla again as the frames are super comfortable, the shopping experience was excellent and not to mention the teeny price-tag!
Has anyone else used Iolla? I’d love some inspo for my next pair!
