So last Tuesday night I was invited to a networking event along with my boss at Riddle’s Court to preview the newly renovated and newly opened historic wedding venue, and let me just tell you, it was stunning to say the least. First impressions count as they always say so I thought I’d wear a wee 80s tailored number to keep me looking smart, and some power dressing can always make you feel your most confident!
My dress is from Those Were The Days Vintage in Stockbridge where I’m actually interning at the moment, so if you haven’t been in you defo should pop in for a look at all the amazing vintage pieces! It’s a black silky draped dress with shoulder pads and has a gorgeous black velvet lapel and matching cuffs and ornate button, and it is honestly one of my comfy dresses despite it looking pretty smart (I think so at least).
I paired it dress with my fave Topshop black glitter sock boots and black fishnets to keep it up to date and keep it a bit less formal and a bit more edgy. Accessory wise I went for my H&M mirrored statement earrings, plain black velvet choker from Topshop, and my usual Vivienne Westwood watch and rings. I went for a vintage style Lulu Guinness ‘life is a bed of roses’ embroidered handbag and I topped off my look with my total fave lippy, NYX liquid suede lipstick in ‘alien’, and a smokey eye (very poorly done – someone help a girl out!)
I had a lovely evening at Riddle’s Court, and as an event venue it is absolutely fab and just the right balance of old to new with historical interiors and modern touches side by side, creating a gorgeous atmosphere for any event. It’s always a bit nerve wracking going to these events but honestly, every one I do I feel that bit less nervous and that bit more connected. So anyone wondering whether or not to take the plunge and go along to a networking event they’ve been invited to, they just should go and enjoy it, because nine times out of ten, everyone is in the same boat!
How do you style your 80s vintage pieces?
