Superdrug Dry Shampoo Review

Capture2

I love dry shampoo, arguably one of the greatest inventions of all time for a time-strapped gal. No time to wash your hair? No bother, just spray your hair with this miracle spray and it’ll look freshly washed (or so they claim).

More often than not you discover this isn’t the case, but I’m a fan of Batiste dry shampoos as they always do the job without making my hair feel dry. But being a bargain-hunter I noticed Superdrug were doing a buy-one-get-one-free deal on their cocoa brownie colour dry shampoo, so I decided to give it a go. I picked the brunette coloured one after hearing from a friend they were amazing in comparison to the normal kinds which leave a horrible chalky white residue on your hair if you don’t scrub them in enough (hello grandma!)

Despite the 3 out of 5 score on Superdrug’s website and personal recommendation, I was really disappointed. Fair enough it did absorb the oil in my hair and make it look a little cleaner but it made my hair so tuggy and so gave it a really rough and dishevelled look so within an hour or two I looked like I’d been dragged through a hedge backwards! It would be great for people with fine hair that wanted to thicken it up a little and add some volume, but for me it was just far too messy.

The colour in the spray went everywhere, and I mean everywhere! My face was covered in brown chalky dust, as well as my clothes and my wall. I’d highly suggest applying this and rubbing it in before makeup and in the bathroom away from soft furnishings (although this was probably common sense for most people and my brain at 6am obviously couldn’t handle the mammoth task of applying dry shampoo yet).

The smell of this dry shampoo isn’t as nice as the Batiste ones but that’s not really a big deal as long as it doesn’t smell really chemically like the super-cheap ones do. So overall if you’re looking for a dry shampoo to thicken hair and give it some texture this is the product for you, but if you favour sleek, shiny hair, give it a miss.
