Let Your Lips Talk

Anyone who knows me well knows that I love having a pop of colour on my lips. Granted, while at uni or just popping to the shops I rarely bother with anything more than a swish of concealer and a coat of mascara because I’m super lazy in the mornings. Although, on a night out or special occasion I am never caught without some kind of lipstick or tint inside my trusty snakeskin clutch bag.

Like most girls I own far too many lipsticks, my dressing table, handbag and car are littered with them; and still I only use a small few which have become my trusty favourites. Lipstick can completely transform a look from day to night and a good lipstick is one of the most essential pieces of makeup any girl can have in their makeup kit! That’s why I’m going to share my 3 go-to lipsticks with you…

Okay, so the first one is one of my most recent purchases, but has quickly become one of my favourites is NYX soft matte lip cream in the shade ‘Cannes’. It’s soft creamy formula glides onto your lips before drying into a lovely matte finish in a pinky nude colour which is great for pairing with dark eye makeup or for a more natural makeup look during the day. It is super easy to apply and a little goes a long way, despite its amazing staying power, although can be drying so make sure you prime your lips with a moisturising lip balm regularly! It’s a bargain at only £5.50, and is perfect for both day and night. You can buy this shade, along with 33 other colours here.

Second on the list is a lipstick from MAC in the shade ‘Instigator’. Its colour is described as ‘deep blackened plum’ and has a matte finish which I love. The dark purple colour has a gothic appearance and could be deemed as too brash for daytime, but with muted makeup look I don’t see why this couldn’t be worn throughout the daytime too. This lipstick does need a few layers before the colour becomes consistent across the entire lip, and does sometimes tend to bleed out with the lip line; but a coat of lip primer and a good quality lip liner such as Loreal ColourStay lip liner can help combat this (which I have run out of, hence the less than perfect application). Overall it has a gorgeously smooth application and matte formula which instantly transforms any look from day to night! You can purchase this lipstick here.

Last but not least, it Topshop’s sheer lipstick in the shade ‘Red Alert’. Sadly, I believe this product has been discontinued, so I will just have to make sure I savour this product and use it sparingly. This lipstick is super moisturising and provides a sheer glossy coverage which can be layered to give a more opaque finish. It applies more like a balm than a lipstick and contains gorgeous shimmery particles which are especially festive. This is by far one of my best purchases, if I remember correctly I got it in sale for about £3! You can wear it on its own for a more natural look or over lipstick to give it an added boost.

I’m always looking for new favourites, so I’d love to know, what’s your favourite lipstick or lip product?
